CULBERTSON, Mont.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GreenShift Corporation announced that it has received a grant award of $375,000 to further the development of GreenShift's patented and patent-pending algae bioreactor.
The funding is provided through the Montana Board of Research and Commercialization, a unit of the Montana Department of Commerce. The objective of the grant award is to demonstrate the production of algae from an industrial source of carbon dioxide in Montana using GreenShift's patented and patent-pending bioreactor technology. GreenShift is to provide matching funds of $125,000.
David Winsness, GreenShift's Chief Technology Officer, said that "We are excited to have this opportunity as the grant funding provided by the state of Montana further demonstrates Montana's commitment to the development of alternative raw materials for fuels, chemicals and specialty products. While GreenShift's approach is distinct from other algae offerings, significant additional development work is required to realize commercial viability. We are glad to have earned Montana's support and we look forward to making a valuable contribution in this emerging field."

HELENA - The State has received nearly $157,000 in Medicaid restitution and penalties as part of a settlement recently negotiated between the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units, the federal government and pharmaceutical manufacturer Cephalon, Inc.
Cephalon will pay $425 million to federal and state Medicaid programs as part of a national agreement that resolves allegations of improper "off-label" marketing of three drugs. "Off-label" describes a use of a medication other than the use for which the drug is approved. Although doctors may prescribe drugs for off-label purposes, it is illegal for manufacturers to promote those off-label uses.

HELENA, Mont. -- Sales of organic products have increased annually by an average of 20 percent during the past decade, which has benefited Montana processors and created opportunities for Montana farmers of wheat, peas, lentils and other crops.

Both methods of converting to organic production will be explained during full-day workshops hosted by the Montana Department of Agriculture during February.
